Led by coach Robert Kennedy, five Tennis Manitoba players are in Calgary this week competing in the 2019 Under 12 Rogers Indoor Junior Nationals.
Caleb Gnilo is 1-5 in singles and doubles action and will have his final match today against Alberta’s Maksim Gluic.
Evan Peters and Jacob Yee didn’t pick up any wins, but it was a great experience for the two local athletes to play against players across the country.
Aurora Ling dropped her first three singles matches, but has rebounded nicely and won her last two. Ling beat Andrea Cabio (6-2, 6-3) and Abigeyle Bero Kaur Bhopa (7-5, 1-6, 6-0). Ling will battle a familiar face in the Girls Singles U12 – Flight #3 final on Wednesday morning, as she’ll meet fellow Tennis Manitoba athlete, Andrea Oros. Similar to Ling, Oros lost her first three matches but won her last two. Oros defeated Vanessa Salinas (6-1, 6-4) and Kiera Taylor (6-1, 1-0 Retired).
Unfortunately, the match between Ling and Oros didn’t last long. Ling won the match 2-1, as Oros had to retire.
Overall, it was a great week for Tennis Manitoba’s young players and they will all build off of this experience moving forward.
