Winnipeg’s Reece Carter had a terrific run for Team Prairies at the 2019 Under 16 Rogers Indoor Junior Nationals in Verdun, Que.

Carter started the tournament on a roll, as she won her first four matches to reach the semi-final. She defeated Sonia Skobkareva (6-3, 7-6(2)), Chae Eun Yoo (6-3, 6-3), Grace Haugen (6-1, 6-1),Cadence Brace (6-2 6-2) before losing to the top-ranked Mélodie Collard (6-1 6-2) in the semi-final.

On Wednesday morning, Carter competed for the bronze medal against Kayla Alexandra Cross. It was an epic match, but Cross came away with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win.

Carter also competed in the doubles event with partner Mia Kupres. Carter and Kupres lost a tough one to  Stefanie Faith Frias Da Silva and Annabelle Xu (7-6(2), 7-5).

Stefan Barré represented Tennis Manitoba in boys action at the under-16 tournament. He fell to Nemanja Stefanovic and Alexander Christopher Adamec in singles action. In doubles, Barré and his partner William Preciado had a hard fought match with Haitam Aboufirassi and Sasha Rozin, but ultimately came out on the losing end (6-7(3), 2-6).
