Top Manitoba junior players are set to embark on Tennis Manitoba’s second annual Florida Junior Tour (November 30-December 16). Manitobans Monika Popovic, Shawn Sophasath, Maya Arksey, Stefan Barre and Reece Carter will train and compete in Florida with 10 Saskatchewan juniors and two from Alberta. The contingent will be coached by Manitoba’s Jared Connell and Saskatchewan’s Denise Fernandez and Marek Nehasil.
Among the tournaments the team will compete in are the Little Mo and Big Mo Internationals, the USTA Whole Foods Jr. Championship and Casely International Championship two-day tournaments.
On November 28, Reece Carter beat Lara Nottoli of Italy 6-0, 6-2 in the first round of girls’ U12 singles at the Eddie Herr International Junior Championships in Florida. Carter, a member of Tennis Canada’s national U12 team, is seeded 12th in the event.
