Reece Carter captured the girls’ U18 singles title at the Lakewood Indoor Junior Open (February 2-4 in Saskatoon), beating Aurora Pedwell 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals and defeating Anya Chavez 6-1, 6-1 in the final. Manitoba was also represented at the tournament by Zihan Ling, Fiona Mullins, Daniel Mullins and Stefan Barre.

Ling defeated Hana Merrick 6-2, 6-4 and then lost in quarterfinals of girls’ U12 singles to No. 1 seed and eventual champion Sara Kostic 6-0, 6-0. In girls’ U14 singles, Ling beat Nhu Nguyen-Quach 6-0, 6-3 before losing 6-1, 6-0 to Isabella Naugler. Fiona Mullins was a semifinalist in girls’ U14 singles, earning victories over Waverly Potter (6-2, 6-0) and Sara Kostic (6-4, 7-6) before falling to Klara Merrick 6-1, 6-3. Mullins was defeated by Merrick in girls’ U16 singles 6-1, 6-0.

Daniel Mullins beat Conor Chemeski 6-1, 6-3 in boys’ U14 singles before losing in the semifinals to eventual champion Keegan Rice 6-0, 6-2. Barre lost in the semifinals of boys’ U16 singles 6-4, 6-4 to Kolya Sidloski after posting wins over Nicholas Pesenti (6-1, 6-0) and Aeon Espino (6-3, 6-1). Mullins won the consolation side of boys’ U16 singles with a 6-1 win over Ryan Goron. In boys’ U18 singles, Barre was edged 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 by William Preciado.
