Team Canada presented by Sobeys is finishing 2023 as the No.1-ranked nation for the first time since The Billie Jean King Cup Rankings were introduced.
Following their historic victory in Seville, first-time World Champions Canada have claimed the top spot in the 2023 year-end Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Nations Rankings for the first time, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced Wednesday.
Team Canada presented by Sobeys climbed five places from their previous position of No. 6 after defeating Italy 2-0 on Sunday, becoming just the eighth nation to hold the No. 1 spot since the rankings were introduced in November 2002 – after Slovakia, France, Russia, Italy, Czechia, Australia and Switzerland.
