A trio of Manitobans came away with doubles titles at last weekend’s ITF Masters tennis tournament at the Alberta Tennis Centre in Calgary.
Peter Otto and Geoff Kirbyson won the 50-plus division by defeating the top seeded pair of Cal Benazic and Kris Dolinki 6-4, 6-0 in the final while Shane Nichols partnered with Dana Pallesen to win the 30-plus division, upsetting top-ranked Grant Findlay-Shirras and Ian Slater 6-7 (5), 6-1, 10-2 (super tie-break).
Otto and Kirbyson, who were unseeded, also beat the No. 2 seed, Dennis Lamb and Alex Chavez, 6-1, 6-2 in the quarter-finals. Nichols and Pallesen, who were also unranked, took out the No. 2 duo in their event in the semi-finals.
The ITF World Masters Tour is a global tennis tour for players aged 30 and over.
