A travel bursary has been established by the family of Sharon Pollack for aspiring junior tennis players in Manitoba: The Sharon Pollack Travel Bursary will off-set costs for the Florida Junior Tour. Shawn Sophasath (at middle in above photo), Stefan Barre (second from right) and coach Jared Connell recently returned home from Tennis Manitoba’s inaugural Florida Junior Tour (December 3-16), playing five two-day tournaments and training with players from Team Saskatchewan.

The Florida Tour team is limited to the U12 and U14 age categories. The 2016 tour will be a requirement for Manitoba players training for the 2017 Summer Games in Winnipeg.

The Pollack family has made big contributions to the sport of tennis in Manitoba over the years, with Hart Pollack and sister Lisa being longtime competitive players.

“Gaining a broad range of match experience with players outside of the local community is critical for junior development,” said Hart Pollack. “We were fortunate that our parents traveled extensively for tennis with us and I think it’s therefore fitting to have a bursary in my mom’s name dedicated to assist others with the same.”
