Tennis Manitoba will hold an Introduction to Officiating course, May 12-13. The course (9 am-4 pm each day) is the first step on the road to becoming a certified Tennis Canada official. Attendance on both days is mandatory.

The course will prepare participants for work as a Roving Umpire (also known as off court umpire) and a Line Umpire, and they will be given an overview of the roles of the Chair Umpire and Referee. The Rules of Tennis and Code of Conduct will be covered. Course fee is $20, which includes a rule book.

A candidate becomes certified after successfully completing both the two-day course and a practical on court evaluation at local tournaments. All successful candidates will be eligible to work during the 2018 season as Roving Officials at Tennis Manitoba events and will also have an opportunity to be on court with top international players as a Line Umpire at the Winnipeg National Bank Challenger.

For current officials, a professional development session will be held on Friday, May 11 from 5-8 pm. Contact Tennis Manitoba at 204-925-5660 or Tennis Manitoba’s officials coordinator Ekaterina Zhupanova at ekaterinazhupanova@gmail.com to reserve your spot. Participants must be 16 years of age or older.
