Manitoba’s Reece Carter will play Monday in the semifinals of girls’ doubles with partner Mia Kupres of Alberta at the U16 Indoor Rogers Junior Nationals in Montreal. After wins over Leena Bennetto/Chae Eun Yoo of BC (the No. 3 seeded team) and Sarah L’Allier/Selma Tounsi of Quebec, Carter/Kupres will now take on the No. 1 seeds Jada Bui/Corina Spasojevic of Ontario.

In singles play, Carter and fellow Manitoban Monika Popovic reached the main draw’s round of 16. Carter beat Hana Cho of BC 6-4, 6-3 before losing to No. 1 seed Jada Bui of Ontario 6-1, 6-2. Popovic earned victories over Ontario’s Winnie Wing Yee Choi (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) and Quebec’s Selma Tounsi (6-1, 7-5) before falling to No. 5 seed Rachel Hanford of Ontario 6-2, 6-0. Carter will play Quebec’s Juliette Begin on Monday in the consolation draw, while Popovic meets Ontario’s Cadence Brace.

Also in Montreal, Stefan Barre of Manitoba rebounded from a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Jayden Templeman of Ontario to edge William Preciado of Saskatchewan 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 in the consolation. Barre was eliminated by Quebec’s Benjamin Lortie 6-0, 6-1.

At the U12 Indoor Rogers Junior Nationals in Calgary, Zihan Aurora Ling of Manitoba dropped her first two round-robin matches, falling to Emma Andrea Tutoveanu of Ontario and to Alizée Poulin of Quebec. Ling will play Saskatchewan’s Nhu Nguyen-Quach on Monday.
