Manitobans Reece Carter, Ryan Carter, Elinor Shpunt, Stefan Barre, Maya Arksey and Ella Arksey competed at the Saskatchewan Junior Open, held June 10-12 at Lakeshore Tennis Club in Regina. Reece Carter won the girls’ U14 singles and girls’ U16 singles, beating Martyna Ostrzygalo of Alberta to win both titles (7-5, 6-1 in the U14 final and 6-2, 6-1 in the U16 final).
Ryan Carter and Barre had runner-up finishes: Carter lost 6-2, 6-0 to Teah Chavez in the girls’ U12 singles final after beating Ella Arksey in the semifinals, while Barre lost 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 to Kolya Sidloski in the boys’ U14 singles final. Barre won the boys’ U16 singles consolation, beating Austin Lin 6-1, 6-0.
Shpunt beat Adlgessa Yowin 6-0, 6-0 to win the girls’ U14 singles consolation, while Maya Arksey placed fifth in the girls’ U16 singles.
