(June 7, 2021) Tennis Manitoba is excited to announce that we’ve entered a lease agreement with the City of Winnipeg to operate Deer Lodge Tennis Club.

The facility, which is located in at 2050 Ness Ave., will be renamed Tennis Manitoba Hub at Deer Lodge.

“Deer Lodge has been in the tennis community since the 1950s. The City of Winnipeg put a tender out that was open to any sport or any business,” said Tennis Manitoba president Mohamed Ismath.

“Our board of directors and our executive director jumped on the opportunity. So, now, we’re excited to inform everyone that we will manage the property and promote grassroots tennis, high-performance tennis, and community tennis for all age groups.”

The club will operate on a pay-as-you-play model and is not intended to compete with other clubs. The opening date will depend on provincial health orders but the current target is between June 15-July 1

“This is the developmental centre for Tennis Manitoba. It’s a grassroots centre for the sport in our province,” said Tennis Manitoba executive director Mark Arndt.

“We’re going to be promoting other clubs. This is the entryway to the tennis pathway for some. If they want the full club experience, we will provide all the information we can for players to enjoy clubs around town if they so choose. We’re going to have more events, more tournaments and more opportunity to raise the awareness of our sport in our city and province. We’re looking forward to what it brings to tennis.”
