New provincial team program aims to help players succeed at the national level.

Manitoba placed eighth in the tennis team competition at the Canada Summer Games at Winnipeg Lawn Tennis Club. Team Manitoba beat Northwest Territories 6-0 in the round of 16 before falling 5-1 to BC in the quarterfinals. In Flight 5-8 play, Manitoba defeated PEI 4-2 in the quarterfinals and then lost 4-2 to Nova Scotia in the semifinals. Saskatchewan beat Manitoba 4-2 in the 7/8 tie. Ontario won gold in the team event, with BC claiming silver and Quebec earning bronze.

Manitoba’s Reece Carter tied for fifth in female singles after losing in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-3 to eventual bronze medalist Vanessa Wong of Ontario. The Manitoba team of Maya Arksey/Monika Popovic tied for fifth in female doubles after losing in the quarterfinals to eventual champions Ariana Arseneault/Jada Bui of Ontario.
