Manitoba players Ben Mayes and Jacob Yee took part in the Saskatchewan Junior Open, held May 25-27 in Saskatoon. Yee lost to eventual champion Lucas Poirier 6-1, 6-0 in boys’ U12 singles before being edged 6-4, 7-6 by Stephen Sidloski in the consolation. Yee beat Sidloski 6-2, 6-4 in the boys’ U14 singles consolation before losing to David Preciado. Mayes won four matches to win the boys’ U14 singles consolation, beating Preciado 6-3, 6-4 in the final. In boys’ U16 singles, Mayes lost 6-0, 6-1 to Nolan Sax before falling 3-6, 6-2, 10-3 to Nicholas Pesenti in the consolation.
