Manitoba was represented by 19 players at the Steve Stevens Senior National Tennis Championships, August 20-26 in Vancouver: Mary Kellner-Somers, Peter Somers, Joan Schumacher, Susan Blumenschein, Dong Won Kang, Chris Shay, Trevor Borland, Marilyn Redekop, Ted Redekop, Pat Chawla, Archie Chawla, Margaret Boumford, Vinh Nguyen, Glen Ziprick, Chris Wiebe, Shirley Blanca, Tom Brown, Marc Lloyd and Danielle Parent.
Borland advanced to the semifinals of men’s 40+ singles, losing 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 to No. 1 seed and eventual champion Olivier Borlée. Parent won three matches in women’s 55+ singles, reaching the consolation semifinals. In women’s 55+ doubles, Parent/Chawla advanced to the semifinals before losing 6-4, 7-5 to eventual champions Jacquie Lee Andrews/Jeannette Kerluke of BC.
