Winnipeg’s Reece Carter continues to make a name for herself.

Carter, who was a part of the Canadian Junior National team competing at the Eddie Herr International in Bradenton, FL last week, impressed by reaching the Round of 32 in the girls’ U14 singles competition and the Round of 16 in the girls’ U14 doubles event with her partner and fellow Canadian, Mia Kupres.

Carter, 14, had a big singles victory over American Natalie Block (6-3, 7-6), before meeting eventual tournament champion, Brenda Fruhvirtova (CZE) in the second round, where she lost 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Carter had the closest game with the eventual champion out of anyone in the tournament. Carter and Kayla Cross were the lone Canadians in the U14 girls’ event to make it past the Round of 64.

In doubles, Carter and Kupres took down Sandugash LL Kenzhibayeva (KAZ) and Grace Levelston (USA) 7-5, 6-3 before falling to Katerina Dimitrova (BGR) and Angella Okutoyi (KEN) in straight sets.

Melisa Ercan and Ozlem Uslu of Turkey would go on to win the U14 girls’ event.
