Exciting news for tennis in Manitoba: the annual men’s professional tournament in Winnipeg has been upgraded from a Futures to a Challenger level event. The Winnipeg National Bank Challenger (combined ATP and WTA tournaments) will be held July 9-18 at Winnipeg Lawn Tennis Club.

Organizers are expecting to attract players ranked as high as No. 40 on the men’s side and No. 100 on the women’s side. Total prize money will be $100,000 ($75,000/men, $25,000/women). The combined Winnipeg ATP/WTA events will be the third largest pro tournament of 2016 in Canada.
