Fiona Mullins and twin brother Daniel picked up titles at the Lakewood Indoor Junior Open, held February 10-12 in Saskatoon! Fiona won the girls’ U12 singles with round-robin victories over Nhu Nguyen-Quach (6-0, 6-0) and Julianne Catherine Burlet (6-3, 3-6, 10-6). She also beat Burlet in the girls’ U14 singles semifinals before losing the final to Saskatchewan’s Teah Chavez 6-1, 6-0.

Daniel Mullins won the boys’ U12 singles, dropping just two games in his three round-robin matches. In boys’ U14 singles, he beat Carson Nicholas Fidyk 6-4, 6-1 before losing to Rylan Hastings of BC 6-1, 6-1.

Also representing Manitoba at the tournament were Stefan Barre and Christopher Derksen. Barre beat Jacob Francis Burlet 6-1, 6-0 in boys’ U14 singles before losing to Artem Manov 6-4, 7-5. Barre also lost to Manov (6-0, 6-1) in boys’ U16 singles after earning a 6-2, 6-3 win over Mikhail Sloboshan.

Derksen reached the consolation final in boys’ U14 singles, beating Harry Lin 8-4 before losing to Austin Lin 8-6. Derksen dropped both of his matches in boys’ U16 singles.
