A total of 10 Manitoba players took part in the Steve Stevens Senior Nationals, held August 21-27 in Ottawa: Tom Brown, Glen Ziprick, Chris Wiebe, Susan Blumenschein, Dawn Cyr, Joe Cyr, Marc Lloyd, Tony Weekes, Trevor Borland and Vinh Nguyen.
Wiebe won two main draw matches in men’s 55+ singles, including a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory over fifth seed Marc Pepin. In the third round, Wiebe lost to ninth seed Albert Deschamps 6-2, 6-1. Borland/Nguyen teamed up to win the men’s 40+ doubles consolation, beating Rudy Affandi/Olivier Basset in the final 1-6, 6-4, 10-5. In the men’s 40+ singles consolation, Borland won three matches before losing in the semifinals.
