Reece Carter and Monika Popovic competed at the U16 Outdoor Rogers Juniors Nationals, held August 22-27 in Gatineau, Quebec. Carter won her opening two main draw singles matches (beating Sara Zupanc of BC 6-2, 6-2 and edging BC’s Chae Eun Yoo 3-6, 6-2, 6-2) before losing in the round of 16 to No. 2 seed Alexandra Mikhailuk of Ontario 6-2, 6-1. Popovic beat Newfoundland’s Alexandra Mikhailuk 6-2, 6-2 in her first match before losing in the round of 16 to No. 5 seed Oleksandra Gorchanyuk of Ontario.
Twins Daniel and Fiona Mullins represented Manitoba at the U12 Outdoor Rogers Junior Nationals (August 22-28) in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec. In Flight #3 boys’ singles, Daniel Mullins lost to Mark Rainnie of PEI 6-2, 6-0 and was beat by Saskatchewan’s Keegan Rice in the consolation 6-2, 6-1. In Flight #3 girls’ singles, Fiona Mullins beat Mia Bennett of New Brunswick 6-2, 6-1 before losing to Ontario’s Ella James 6-1, 6-1 and falling to Isabella Baker of Nova Scotia in the 3/4 playoff 6-2, 6-1. Alex Lesiuk coached the team at the event.
Competing for Manitoba at the U14 Outdoor Rogers Junior Nationals (August 28-September 3) in Mont-Tremblant are Reece Carter, Fiona Mullins, Marcello Audino and Stefan Barre. The team is coached by Jared Connell.
