Our premier event is set to return this summer. The 2021 Manitoba Open is scheduled to take place at the Kildonan Tennis Club from August 9-15. Last year’s event was cancelled due to the pandemic.

“We’re quite excited to be hosting the Manitoba Open,” said David Scrapneck, Kildonan Tennis Club president. “For now, it’s on… I suspect it will be safe to hold it. If not, we will adapt if need be.”

This is Tennis Manitoba’s first scheduled tournament since COVID-19. Doubles play has been removed and it will be singles only, meaning this year’s event will be seven days in total as opposed to 10. Scrapneck said their facility will take all the necessary precautions to make the tournament as safe as possible for players and spectators.

“Overall, our club is very supportive of hosting a tournament or two a year,” he said.

“It’s important to be a part of the tennis community and to encourage people to not only improve their game but play against other people and get into a different type of competitive mode… It’s a totally different feeling when it’s a tournament.”

Stay tuned to the Tennis Manitoba newsletter and our website for more information on this year’s Manitoba Open and for updates on the rest of our tournament schedule. The current health orders allow for competition and Tennis Manitoba is in discussion with other facilities around the city about hosting events.
