Reece Carter of Manitoba was crowned a Canadian doubles champion at the U14 Rogers Outdoor Junior Nationals, held August 27-September 2 in Mont-Tremblant. Carter and partner Mia Kupres of Alberta won the girls’ U14 title with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 win over the top seeded team of Sarah Liu (Ontario)/Annabelle Xu (Quebec). Carter/Kupres went into the event as the No. 2 seeded duo.

In singles play, Carter went 4-0 in her round-robin group and then beat Quebec’s Sarah L’Allier 6-4, 6-2 to qualify for the final 8 Championship Flight. In the quarterfinals, Carter was edged 6-4, 7-5 by Ontario’s Dharani Niroshan. With a victory over Martyna Ostrzygalo of Alberta, Carter finished seventh in the competition.

Manitoba was also represented at the U14 nationals by Fiona Mullins, Daniel Mullins and Ben Mayes. In Flight #4 girls’ singles, Fiona Mullins beat Nova Scotia’s Lily Ramsay 6-2, 6-4 before losing the final to Sydney Baffoe of BC. Daniel Mullins and Mayes were defeated in the quarterfinals of Flight #4 boys’ singles.
